'LEST WE FORGET'

We all know the story of how, when and why Remembrance Day became a treasured day in our history. The eleventh hour - the eleventh day - the eleventh month.

We honour our fallen soldiers by standing in silent prayer for two minutes every year on November 11th at 11:00 am, and then listen to the poem that touches each of us. . .

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead, Short days ago
We lived, saw dawn, felt sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up your quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The touch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

"In Flanders Fields" was written on May 3, 1915, after the battle of Ypres by Doctor Major (later Lieutenant-Colonel) John McCrae - 1st Field Artillery Brigade.

For many of us, we've had Grandfathers, Fathers, Husbands, Sons, Brothers or Uncles who fought either in World War I or World War II. Those were the wars to end all wars. But alas, the world is still not at peace. And now we have Mothers, Wives, Daughters, Sisters and Aunts to add to the list of those fighting for our freedom and safety here at home.

To all those who came before and to all those who are standing at the frontlines today -- we thank you and want you to know. . . We Will Never Forget!
